Pretty much the second you leave that place more demon doods are gonna refill it. Now, (having killed everything) if you went back to that area a couple of days later, would you expect to find everything as it was? Dead bodies everywhere and no reiforcements present? If an evil plague has descended over a land, it is only right that you should go out and kill all of the enemies in a certain area, right? And the waypints are there to stop you getting too annoyed. It gives you time to review what you're doing when you start to play again. The character spawning at the nearest town is not a bad idea at all if you ask me.
